Family Planning

Christian marriage has as its divinely ordained end the lifelong companionship of husband and wife, hallowed by mutual love for God and each other. Both spiritual fellowship and physical union play their part in this.

However, it is recognised that many married couples will find it necessary to limit the number of their children for reasons of health, economics and other factors; any such decision, including the contraceptive means to be used, should be taken responsibly, by mutual agreement, and under medical advice and spiritual guidance.

There may be instances where a husband or wife may submit to sterilization, but this should be performed only on competent medical advice.

Decisions by Salvationists concerning contraception and sterilization should be in harmony with this statement, but should not conflict with the law in areas where government legislation may be more restrictive.
